Product Design - 2021
Everyday, massive amounts of water are literally flushed down the drain. This, and the fact that underdeveloped areas don't have much access to running water, all of this can cause serious health issues.
To help solve this, the company Tize Care developed a liquid chemical that removes the bacteria from urine.
Just 2.5ml (10 drops) of this pleasant-smelling chemical is enough to reduce the number of times you need to flush; without the risk of infections or unpleasant odors.
First, we gathered all the information and characteristics required with a competitor analysis to understand what similar products already exist in the market and what could work for our brief.
The intended use of our product was for the liquid to sit in the remaining water after the flush. The problem with the competitors was that the chemical was wasted during each flush.
We needed:
After so many hours of thinking, ideating and iterating ideas, and debating all the problems each design generated, we came up with an interesting proposition:
Make the liquid, a solid.
With liquids, the solutions we thought included an electronic mechanism, but these elevated the price and the complexity to use.
This idea surged while thoroughly investigating how toilets work and found that most toilets have a small hose in the tank that, after flushing, sends water to the outside perimeter of the toilet bowl.
The end product consists of two parts:
1. The plastic applicator.
2. An interchangeable Tize solid chemical.
This applicator is placed via an adjustable clip onto the "overflow tube" inside the toilet tank.
This applicator connects to the small plastic hose. The water falls directly at the bottom of the solid chemical, allowing the chemical to dilute and properly distribute inside the toilet bowl after each flush.
