The design

"Ootamatu" means unexpected in Estonian. The name refers to the unusual way to box opens.

The mechanism works by separating and turning the outer parts.

This movement consists in separating in half the exterior parts; then rotating the pieces outwards 90 degrees to gain the full access to the box.

3 different wood types were used to fabricate the box:

Walnut

Walnut wood. Dark brown color.

Cedar

Cedar Wood. Brown almost red color.

Walnut

Walnut wood. Light-yellow color with lots of lines for texture.

Results

The result is an elegant and unique box that can be displayed in your home.
